A man in his 20s from Singapore, who showed off his financial power by spraying tens of millions of won Hermes bags at a nightclub, admitted to stealing 300 billion won worth of bitcoin.

According to NBC and the BBC on the 9th (local time), Singaporean Malone Lam pleaded guilty to participating in a $245 million (about 328 billion won) cryptocurrency takeover case at a federal court in Washington, D.C. the previous day.

It is considered the largest cryptocurrency theft in the United States ever.

After dropping out of middle school in Singapore, he moved to the U.S. in 2023 and continued his stay even after his visa expired. Later, he is accused of conspiring with a group he met on an online game platform to steal 4,100 Bitcoin from a victim living in Washington, D.C., in August 2024.

The group approached the victims by dividing their roles into employees of Google Cloud and Gemini, a U.S. cryptocurrency exchange. They were found to have secured Google Cloud, computers, and private keys of Bitcoin wallets in turn by deceiving that "there was an unauthorized access attempt to the account."

After the crime, Lam rented a luxury Miami house and bought about 30 luxury vehicles, including Lamborghini and Ferrari. More than $500,000 worth of luxury watches and tens of thousands of dollars worth of clothing were also found at the home.
