Lam, who goes by some curious monikers, is facing a lengthy prison stay.
His money didn't stay digital for long.
Lam and his crew turned their crypto haul into the kind of spending spree that left investigators with quite the collection of evidence.
There were exotic cars worth as much as $3.8 million apiece. Watches that could top $500,000. Private jets. Luxury rentals in Miami, Los Angeles and the Hamptons.
And then there were the nights out.
Prosecutors say the group spent as much as $500,000 in a single night at clubs, where handbags worth tens of thousands of dollars were sometimes handed out at parties.
It was all allegedly fueled by an operation Lam ran under aliases including “Anne Hathaway,” “$$$” and “King Greavy.”
The scheme took shape through connections made on online gaming platforms and grew into an international network with members in Florida, Connecticut, New York, California and overseas.
Lam picked the targets and coordinated the players, authorities said.
