In Singapore, Maybank Singapore CEO Alvin Lee said that ultra-wealthy investors in Asia are increasingly combining investments in traditional assets, including gold and real estate, with investments in digital assets and cryptocurrencies. CNBC Top News reports.

According to him, individuals with ultra-high net worth are considering financial instruments and physical assets — real estate and precious metals — at the same time. Lee called the rise in gold prices evidence of its role as a store of value.

Gold and new asset classes

At the time of publication, an ounce of gold was worth about $4,400, below record levels at the beginning of the year but still significantly above historical levels. Goldman Sachs projected that by the end of the year, the metal’s price could reach $4,900 per ounce amid purchases by central banks.

At the same time, in Lee’s assessment, wealthy clients are becoming more open to new asset classes, including digital assets and cryptocurrencies. According to him, the younger generation shows the greatest interest in such instruments. He linked this trend to wealthy families’ focus on transferring capital from older generations to younger ones.
