Bitcoin's two-week consolidation above $83,000 broke down on Wednesday, with the cryptocurrency sliding roughly 4% as the institutional demand that powered September's rally showed no sign of returning. The catalyst for September's breakout — aggressive inflows into U.S. spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds — has evaporated. Those products attracted roughly $2.6 billion in September, with a single week ended Sept. 25 accounting for $2.39 billion of that total. The busiest day, Sept. 21, saw nearly $999 million in net inflows.
Since then, demand has cooled dramatically. Last week's net inflows totaled just $241 million. This week has been even weaker: the funds recorded $119 million in net inflows on Tuesday after losing $90 million on Monday, leaving the weekly total below $30 million, according to SoSoValue data.
