In recent weeks, Bitcoin has demonstrated a significant rally, bouncing back from a low of approximately $57,748 on July 1 to surpass $80,000 before settling around $79,710. This represents a remarkable 38% increase in value. However, this surge was curtailed by growing apprehensions about potential interest rate hikes following a robust August jobs report.

Parallel to Bitcoin’s price movements, the institutional appetite for cryptocurrency has surged, as reflected in BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT). The ETF’s net assets have soared from $47.7 billion at the end of July to about $60.2 billion, indicating strong institutional demand for regulated exposure to Bitcoin.

Despite the current momentum, several macroeconomic factors pose challenges to Bitcoin reaching the coveted $100,000 mark. Rising oil prices, which have exceeded $96 per barrel amid geopolitical tensions related to the U.S.-Iran conflict, alongside bond yields approaching 5%, create substantial headwinds for risk assets like Bitcoin. Furthermore, expectations for a rate hike, fueled by the recent job market data, add uncertainty to Bitcoin’s upward trajectory.

Bitcoin’s recovery has sparked renewed interest in the cryptocurrency sector; it outperformed Ethereum, which rose about 56% during the same timeframe. However, both cryptocurrencies still fall short of their all-time highs, with Bitcoin remaining well below its October 2025 peak of approximately $126,000.
