The report, published Aug. 27 and authored by Grayscale head of research Zach Pandl, frames Zcash as benefiting from what it calls "second mover advantages" over Bitcoin. Because Zcash launched after Bitcoin, it could incorporate capabilities that were either technically infeasible or less pressing when the original cryptocurrency debuted in 2009.
Pandl identified three specific features that set Zcash apart. The first is financial privacy.
