Interactive Brokers Group IBKR launched cryptocurrency staking for eligible clients, starting with Ethereum. Clients can stake and unstake through a dashboard in the Client Portal, with rewards credited as additional staked crypto that can compound. Interactive Brokers shares fell 1.34% as of 10:15 a.m. ET.
CEO Milan Galik compared the service to the broker's Stock Yield Enhancement Program, saying staking gives clients an opportunity to earn rewards on the cryptocurrency they own. The staking services are provided by zerohash.
The launch comes two days before third-quarter results on October 15. Trading activity cooled at the end of the quarter. Daily average revenue trades were 4.111 million in September, up 6% from a year earlier but down 4% from August, while ending client equity rose 27% from a year earlier to $964.7 billion.
