U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff, D-Ga., who is trying to keep his seat in the midterm elections, criticized his Republican opponent, Rep. Mike Collins, saying he has sometimes not properly disclosed some of his cryptocurrency trades. The digital currencies have fewer regulations than traditional banking or stock trading and Congress is grappling with what to allow.

“Not a lot of people know this, but Congressman Mike Collins is literally one of the most active crypto traders in the entire Congress, House or Senate … But Mike Collins also repeatedly broke the law hiding his crypto trading,” Ossoff said during an Aug. 16 rally in Atlanta.

For this fact-check, we’re examining whether Collins is among Congress’ most active crypto traders.

Collins traded crypto about a dozen times in 2025, more than most other members of Congress, according to news reports of the most active crypto traders and public disclosures. Some news outlets have described Collins as a “prolific” crypto trader, and he has written for years about his affinity for the currency.

Collins posted on X in December 2021 that he has been “doing crypto” since 2017, and both of his sons have gotten into crypto since. “We’re fans to say the least,” the post said. It was about that time, before Collins was elected to Congress, that The Wall Street Journal reported that nine House members had cryptocurrency. More current reporting suggests that crypto investment remains relatively rare among members of Congress.
