SpaceX (SPCX) stock is in focus on Monday after big news over the weekend concerning its AI coding tool Cursor and OpenAI (OPAI.PVT).

OpenAI said late Friday evening that Cursor would no longer be allowed access to its AI models. SpaceX closed its acquisition of Cursor earlier this month in a $60 billion deal.

"We notified SpaceX that we intend to wind down our contract providing OpenAI models to Cursor, with a proposed shutoff date of November 12, 2026," OpenAI said. "We are making this choice because we cannot be confident that SpaceX will use our technology within our terms of service, based on our experience with Elon Musk's companies violating contracts."

Despite the decision, SpaceX stock was higher in early trading.

OpenAI added more context to the complaints: "After Musk acquired Twitter, now part of SpaceX, the company broke the terms of our contract (alongside many others). Under oath earlier this year, Musk admitted that xAI, now also part of SpaceX, had violated OpenAI's terms of service (terms which are similar to xAI's own)."

The Cursor move is the latest escalation in a war between Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. Earlier this year, Musk sued OpenAI and Altman, claiming they betrayed the company's original nonprofit mission by creating a for-profit entity, among other things. A jury ruled against Musk, finding that he had filed ‌the case too late.
