NEAR’s approximately 11-12 percentage point swing over the last 24-25 hours is best explained by a leveraged, overextended rally snapping back during a market-wide risk-off move and long liquidations, not by any new negative NEAR-specific news.
Overextended After ETF, Issuance, and Intents Rally
NEAR’s move down comes immediately after a very sharp, event-driven run-up, which left it vulnerable to a fast retrace.
NEAR had just rallied roughly 15-16% from Friday to Monday, extending a more than 100% gain over the prior month, helped by the late September launch of the Bitwise NRR spot NEAR ETF, which pulled in about $58 million in its first week, strong NEAR Intents volume, and a proposal to cut token issuance from 2.5% to 1.6% annually over two years. These drivers are summarized in a Yahoo Finance analysis of NEAR’s jump and a Bitcoin.com piece on a large Hyperliquid NEAR position.
Intents usage and revenue narratives were strong. NEAR Intents reportedly processed several billion dollars in September, and part of the fees are used for NEAR buybacks, which contributed to “fundamental” bullish narratives around revenue and token demand, again highlighted in the Yahoo Finance coverage.
