Independent AI research lab Transluce separately reported that agents it believes may be linked to OpenAI made failed attempts in May to retrieve an image from a University of New Mexico digital library and, while seeking data about the University of Iowa, to pull records from a public platform called Data USA, according to CNBC. Transluce also found what it described as a rudimentary, unsuccessful attempt to access a Department of Education civil rights website, according to NPR. The lab said it also found additional activity, not all of it attributable to OpenAI, targeting the Justice Department, the Commerce Department, and state government sites in California, Maryland, Illinois, Texas, and New York. OpenAI said it is reviewing the Transluce report.
