Hugging Face, a major hub for open-source artificial intelligence models and datasets, is reportedly exploring a potential sale that could value the company at $13 billion or more.

Hugging Face Tests Interest From Potential Buyers

The New York-based AI startup has been working with a bank to assess potential buyers and determine whether there is interest in a transaction, Business Insider reported Sunday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The discussions do not necessarily mean a sale will happen and the company could ultimately decide against pursuing a deal.

Hugging Face did not immediately respond to Benzinga’s request for comment.

Founded in 2016 by French entrepreneurs Clément Delangue, Julien Chaumond and Thomas Wolf, Hugging Face has become a key platform for developers and researchers working with AI models, datasets and related tools.

AI Startup’s Valuation Has Nearly Tripled Since 2023

Hugging Face was valued at $4.5 billion in a 2023 funding round led by major technology companies and investors, including Salesforce Inc. (NYSE:CRM), Alphabet Inc.’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Google and Nvidia Corp (NASDAQ:NVDA).
