Revealing the FBI's Little-Known Annual Conference on Crypto Crime

Now in its ninth year, the event brings together Chainalysis, TRM Labs, and others to discuss North Korean hackers and illicit fund tracking.

As major crypto industry summits compete to invite celebrity speakers and create increasingly luxurious venues, the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has been quietly hosting its own annual conference.

Three past attendees interviewed by CoinDesk stated that the Virtual Asset Technology Exchange hosted by the FBI, formerly known as the Cryptocurrency Seminar, brings together law enforcement officers, international investigative agency staff, and crypto security professionals to exchange intelligence on crypto crimes.

According to reports, blockchain forensic firms including Chainalysis and TRM Labs attended this year's conference held in San Antonio, Texas, in September. Nikhil Raghuveera, co-founder and CEO of Predicate, a blockchain financial compliance infrastructure provider, delivered keynote remarks on stablecoin compliance and the GENIUS Act.

Sources familiar with the matter said that the Security Alliance (SEAL), a nonprofit dedicated to protecting the crypto ecosystem from cyber threats, and FinCEN (Financial Crimes Enforcement Network) under the U.S. Treasury Department, which fights money laundering and illicit finance activities, also sent representatives to attend.
