The S&P 500 pushed past 7,840 on October 6, notching another all-time high as oil prices retreated and Treasury yields eased. Bitcoin, however, did not join the celebration. The cryptocurrency's muted response underscores a recurring theme: a record in equities is not, by itself, a signal for crypto.

The index advanced as the 10-year Treasury yield slipped about 2.1 basis points to 5.28%, according to Reuters, while optimism around artificial intelligence-linked companies and the approaching earnings season lent further support. A softer dollar after recent strength also helped lift sentiment across dollar-denominated markets.

Yet the relief was partial. The 30-year Treasury yield remained near 5.66% during the session, leaving long-term borrowing costs elevated. For Bitcoin, the equity milestone provides context rather than a conclusion. Investors were willing to extend risk exposure in the parts of the stock market leading the rally, but whether lower yields and a weaker dollar can persist long enough to influence crypto remains an open question.

History offers no single answer

The record-setting session is the latest data point in a pattern that has produced wildly different outcomes for Bitcoin. A fresh S&P 500 high can be a useful reference date, but it has never worked as a stand-alone trigger for the cryptocurrency.
