Ripple signs Kansas Athletics as its first collegiate sponsor, funding student education, putting XRP on Jayhawks uniforms, and marking a first for NCAA jersey branding.

Crypto Adoption News

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) cleared the way for corporate logos on Division I uniforms in January 2026, with programs allowed to start wearing them from August. Kansas Athletics is among the first to act on that ruling, partnering with Ripple to place an XRP patch on Jayhawks team jerseys.

Ripple

says

no cryptocurrency has appeared on the uniforms of a major collegiate athletics program before this arrangement. Corporate sponsorships of professional sports venues and kits have been common for years, but college uniforms have historically been off-limits for that kind of branding.

Travis Goff, director of athletics at the University of Kansas, said the university sees the partnership as an opportunity to connect the Jayhawk fanbase with the broader technology industry. "Having the XRP logo displayed on our Jayhawk uniforms reflects a shared commitment to innovation and excellence," he said.

Garlinghouse Ties Deal to Personal and Commercial Roots

Brad Garlinghouse, Ripple's chief executive, is a University of Kansas alumnus. Beyond the jersey placement, Ripple has committed to funding financial and technology education programs for student-athletes and said it plans to expand a talent pipeline connecting Kansas graduates to jobs across the technology sector.

Garlinghouse used the announcement to address the company's four-year legal dispute with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. The SEC sued Ripple in 2020, alleging the company raised $1.3 billion through unregistered securities sales involving XRP. A settlement was eventually reached that required Ripple to pay roughly $125 million. Both Ripple and the SEC dropped their respective appeals in August 2025.

"For four years, a lawsuit that never should have been filed cost XRP holders real value, exchanges delisted a top digital asset, and manufactured doubt that had nothing to do with the technology or its utility," Garlinghouse said. He framed the Kansas partnership as part of a wider push to rebuild public awareness of XRP's use cases now that the litigation is closed.

XRP Ranks 4th Among Non-Stablecoin Cryptocurrencies

XRP currently carries a market capitalization of $67.5 billion, placing it fourth among non-stablecoin cryptocurrencies by that measure. The Kansas deal marks the company's first foray into collegiate athletics sponsorship and arrives as crypto firms increasingly look to sports partnerships to reach mainstream audiences.

Crypto sponsorships at the professional level have become routine, covering arena naming rights, jersey patches, and broadcast integrations. The NCAA's January ruling opened a new category of that market, and Ripple's agreement with Kansas is the first to put a cryptocurrency name directly on a college uniform.
