BaFin Rejects Futurum Bank’s MiCA Application
Bitcoin Group SE announced Oct. 6 that futurum bank AG, a subsidiary of Bitcoin Group SE with a Markets in Crypto-Assets application filed with BaFin, Germany’s financial regulator, on June 27, 2025, had its application rejected. The application review process lasted at least 15 months. Trading operations on Bitcoin.de ended June 12, 2026.
The regulatory authority informed futurum bank that its prior approval to provide crypto-asset services is revoked. Bitcoin Group expects to receive official notification of the decision and a one-month period to challenge it.
Bitcoin Group opposes BaFin’s decision to revoke the bank’s registration and intends to appeal and seek future crypto-asset service registration.
Bitcoin Group reports that regulators at BaFin said futurum bank did not have adequate implementation and readiness measures in place to obtain approval and had other deficiencies that could not be quickly remedied.
The company stated that it was taking the necessary regulatory measures. BaFin has not made any further detailed announcements about the regulator’s decision. Information about the regulator’s decision comes from Bitcoin Group.
