Can artificial intelligence replace your handyman?

Bernie and Brenda Gerold of Naples have been exploring ways to enhance their home, recently turning to artificial intelligence for help with their do-it-yourself projects.

The couple found AI to be a useful guide in some cases.

"AI told me exactly how to do it," Bernie said.

However, they quickly discovered the limitations of relying on technology for home improvement.

Their experience highlighted the risks of working beyond their skill set.

"Now we have three holes in the wall that we have to fix, and we have to figure out how we're going to hang this thing properly," Bernie said.

He also pointed out the potential dangers of using AI without having background knowledge of the project.

"Now all of a sudden, you start cutting through electric lines," he said.

To better understand when to call in professionals, the couple consulted Sunshine Ace Handyman Services.

General Manager Trent Stivers said, "We get a lot of calls from customers that will initially just be looking for information on how to do it themselves."

Stivers explained how small projects can spiral into larger issues.

"It happens quite often. Online is really good at getting you excited to start the project. And all you see is what you're buying and what you're visualizing in your head. It doesn't really drive you to all the points that are in the middle. And so it's really common for a job to be started. And they'll get a little bit done and go, 'Whoa, whoa, whoa,'" he said.
