Elon Musk prepares for next bitcoin bull run with X trading feature

Elon Musk's X platform just turned every crypto conversation into a potential on-ramp. The social media giant rolled out an enhanced Cashtag feature for US users that connects in-feed asset discussions directly to trading interfaces on partner exchanges, including Coinbase, Gemini, Kraken, Interactive Brokers, and Moomoo.

The feature, which went live on September 22, lets users tap on cashtags like $BTC to pull up live price charts, related posts from other users, and a prominently placed "Trade" button. That button redirects them to one of the partner brokers where they can actually place an order.

X is not acting as a broker here. It does not handle trade executions, custody assets, or process any financial transactions on the trading side. Instead, the platform functions as a data layer and referral engine, supplying real-time pricing information and then routing users to licensed exchanges where the actual buying and selling happens.

The launch builds on X's earlier Smart Cashtags rollout in 2026, which added real-time pricing data for several cryptocurrencies directly in the feed. That version gave users price information. This version gives them a path to act on it.

The partner lineup is notable for its breadth. Coinbase, Gemini, and Kraken cover the crypto-native exchange market. Interactive Brokers and Moomoo bring in traditional brokerage infrastructure, meaning the same cashtag system works for stocks and other traditional assets too.
