Gal Gadot Defends Making Doug Liman's Generative AI 'Bitcoin' Thriller Despite Being "Afraid" Of The Tech: "The Train Has Left The Station"

There were big groans when it was revealed that filmmaker Doug Liman (“Bourne Identity,” “Edge of Tomorrow”) would be enlisting heavy use of generative AI for his “Bitcoin” thriller with a very well-known cast cosistenting of Casey Affleck (“Manchester By The Sea”), Pete Davidson (“The King of Staten Island”), Isla Fisher (“Now You See Me: Now You Don’t”) and Gal Gadot (“Snow White”), the latter is now defending particpating in the project while promoting her new Prime movie “The Runner.”

During an in-depth chat with Josh Horowitz on his fantastic industry podcast “Happy Sad Confused” (via Variety), Gadot was pretty blunt with her reasoning for getting involved with a generative AI project, despite all the fear and backlash toward the technology from the threat toward film/TV jobs and the destrusctive enviromential impact alongside drain on community (mostly rural) resources to run these massive data centers (leading to electricity price hikes and drinking water containmination). In the case of “Bitcoin,” they’ve used AI to create the movie’s sets and lighting, with the budget being in the $70 million range.

“This was the longest contract I have ever worked on. It was six months for my lawyers to go through every scenario we could think about as far as the AI component of it. I did not want AI to have anything to do with my performance. We had to protect that… I am afraid of AI, but I am going to be afraid and look away? No. I am afraid, but I am playing with it and learning it and trying to educate myself. The train has left the station. You’re going to work with it or be out of the game completely. I am trying to make the best of it and protect what I can protect. The AI component in this movie is for sets and the lighting. We had a broad crew, and a lot of people were working on this movie.”
