The crypto market has staged a broad August rally, with Cardano emerging as the strongest performer among the major tokens tracked, while Bitcoin has reclaimed the $80,000 level.

The gains have accelerated over the past week, with several major altcoins outperforming Bitcoin, the world's largest cryptocurrency by market value.

Why are cryptocurrencies rallying?

The August rally has been supported by several factors, including developments in US Treasury markets, strong institutional demand and hopes of clearer crypto regulation.

Moves in the US Treasury market have helped lower bond yields, which has revived demand for riskier assets. A softer dollar has also provided support to cryptocurrencies.

The latest Bitcoin rebound has shown signs of being more than a short-lived relief rally. CNBC Pro reported on August 25 that Bitcoin had gained about 22% over the previous week, with the move taking it above its 200-day moving average, a widely watched indicator of its longer-term price trend.

CNBC Pro also pointed to the technical strength of the rebound, noting that the combination of a sharp weekly gain and a move above the 200-day moving average has historically been associated with further gains.
