Repeated efforts to revive the legislation have failed, prolonging uncertainty over supervision, investor protection, and financial crime controls.

Poland’s parliament has failed for a third time to overturn President Karol Nawrocki’s veto of a government-backed crypto-assets market bill, leaving the proposed regulatory changes blocked. The 4 September vote was decided by opposition lawmakers from Law and Justice (PiS), Rozwój Plus and the Confederation, according to the government.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk argued before the vote that the legislation was necessary to strengthen oversight of the crypto market, improve financial security and make it harder for criminal networks to exploit digital assets. The government has also argued that stronger supervision could help protect consumers from financial fraud and pyramid schemes.

Tusk further claimed that the lack of comprehensive crypto regulation makes it more difficult for Polish security services to trace cryptocurrency flows linked to criminal activity and alleged acts of sabotage. The repeated failure to override the veto means Poland’s proposed crypto market framework remains stalled, while lawmakers continue to debate how far regulatory oversight should extend.
