Elon Musk meinte es ernst, als er kürzlich seine Twitter-Biografie in „#bitcoin“ änderte.

Laut einer SEC-Meldung von Tesla hat das Unternehmen Bitcoin im Wert von $1.5 billion gekauft.

„Im Januar 2021 haben wir unsere Anlagerichtlinien aktualisiert, um uns mehr Flexibilität zu geben, unsere Barmittel, die nicht zur Aufrechterhaltung einer angemessenen operativen Liquidität benötigt werden, weiter zu diversifizieren und deren Rendite zu maximieren“, heißt es in der Meldung.

„Als Teil der Richtlinie, die vom Audit Committee unseres Board of Directors ordnungsgemäß genehmigt wurde, können wir einen Teil dieser Barmittel in bestimmte alternative Reserve-Anlagewerte investieren, einschließlich digitaler Vermögenswerte (...) Danach haben wir im Rahmen dieser Richtlinie insgesamt $1.50 billion in bitcoin investiert und können von Zeit zu Zeit oder langfristig digitale Vermögenswerte erwerben und halten.“

Laut der Meldung könnte Tesla in „naher Zukunft“ auch damit beginnen, Bitcoin als Zahlungsmittel für seine Produkte zu akzeptieren.

Mit diesem Schritt tritt Tesla in die Fußstapfen von MicroStrategy, einem Softwareunternehmen, das kürzlich über eine Milliarde Dollar in Bitcoin investiert hat, was die Aufmerksamkeit von Musk erregt haben könnte.

Musk äußerte sich kürzlich positiv über Bitcoin und sagte während einer Clubhouse-Chat-Sitzung, dass die Kryptowährung in Zukunft „breite Akzeptanz“ finden werde.

Kurz nach seinen Kommentaren zu Bitcoin entfernte Musk die Erwähnung von Bitcoin aus seiner Twitter-Biografie und begann, Memes zu teilen über die Scherz-Kryptowährung DOGE, deren Wert möglicherweise infolge dieser Kommentare in die Höhe geschnellt ist.

Bemerkenswert ist, dass die SEC-Meldung von Tesla zwar nur Bitcoin namentlich erwähnt, aber besagt, dass das Unternehmen „digitale Vermögenswerte erwerben kann“. Die Meldung besagt auch, dass es Tesla nun freisteht, in Goldbarren und börsengehandelte Goldfonds zu investieren.

Nach der Nachricht schoss der Preis von Bitcoin sofort auf über $43,000 hoch, ein neues Rekordhoch für die Kryptowährung.
