a16z: "Stablecoins Evolving into Fund Contribution Vehicle"... Expanding Financial Infrastructure Investment

Venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz's (a16z) crypto investment arm held its first standalone summit in Seoul, spotlighting blockchain's transition from a retail transaction tool to core infrastructure for institutional finance. Speaking at the 'a16z Crypto Korea Summit' at Josun Palace in Gangnam-gu on the 1st, Guy Wuollet, General Partner at a16z Crypto, said, "Digital assets that began with individual users are now spreading across the entire financial sector," adding that "the scale of institutional adoption is not receiving enough attention."

He outlined three primary investment directions: financial market infrastructure, stablecoin-based digital finance, and new exchanges. The rationale is that the industry has moved past the era of building blockchain's underlying technology, and what matters now are services that financial institutions and users actually utilize.

As a symbolic example of expansion into institutional finance, he pointed to questions from limited partners. When raising the firm's fifth fund, some LPs asked whether they could contribute their commitments in stablecoins. Blockchain, once used for individual coin trading, is now being considered as a vehicle for the traditional financial activity of venture capital fund contributions.
