A weaker dollar and fresh political backing for digital assets have reignited investor enthusiasm, but the rally carries an important market signal.

On August 25, Bitcoin surpassed the $80,000 level for the first time in more than three months. During the Asian trading session, the largest cryptocurrency was trading at $80,323.24, while its intraday high reached $81,237.94. Such levels were last recorded in mid-May.

Why Bitcoin rose above $80,000

Bitcoin’s price increase came amid a weakening U.S. dollar. Market participants reacted to steps taken by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent aimed at stabilizing the government bond market.

Last week, the U.S. Treasury announced a plan to expand buybacks of long-term bonds. This mechanism is intended to curb the rise in their yields. Following these measures, the dollar came under additional pressure, boosting investor interest in crypto assets.

The impact of Donald Trump’s statements on the crypto market

Another catalyst for the market was U.S. President Donald Trump’s address to Congress. He urged lawmakers to support a bill that would establish clearer rules and definitions for the cryptocurrency industry.

Following the address, Bitcoin’s price rose by 16%. Since the beginning of August, the cryptocurrency has gained 28% in value. If the growth pace continues through the end of the month, August could become Bitcoin’s most successful month since November 2024.
