Bitcoin, Ethereum and XRP Price Prediction Ahead of CPI Data Today

Bitcoin, Ethereum and XRP Price Prediction Ahead of CPI Data Today

Bitcoin, Ethereum and XRP Price Prediction Ahead of CPI Data Today Coinpedia

Bitcoin, Ethereum and XRP are heading into a pivotal U.S. CPI data release today, August 12 at 8.30 a.m. ET (6.00 p.m. IST) with markets expecting July headline inflation at 3.4%. Bitcoin price is near $63,700, Ethereum is pressing toward $1,900, while XRP is defending the $1 mark.

Will another inflation surprise trigger the breakout crypto bulls have been waiting for?

U.S. CPI Forecast: Why the 3.4% Inflation Print Matters

The July CPI report is expected to show a modest 0.1% monthly increase, taking annual headline inflation to 3.4%. Core CPI, which excludes food and energy, is forecast to rise 0.2% month-over-month and 2.5% annually.

The distinction between headline and core inflation will matter for markets. A softer-than-expected CPI would strengthen the case for easier monetary policy and could lower Treasury yields, improving liquidity conditions for risk assets. A hotter reading would have the opposite effect, potentially pushing yields higher and keeping the Federal Reserve cautious on its next policy move.

That creates a direct macro transmission channel for crypto:

Lower inflation → softer rate expectations → lower yields → stronger risk appetite → higher crypto beta.

The opposite reaction would put pressure on Bitcoin first, with Ethereum and XRP likely amplifying the move. Markets are already positioned for a volatility expansion. The key question is whether CPI supplies the catalyst needed to finally break that range.

Bitcoin Price Prediction: Can BTC Repeat Its Post-CPI Rally?

Bitcoin’s recent CPI history is giving traders another reason to pay attention. Following the previous two CPI releases, BTC delivered sizeable moves in the subsequent week. Market data highlighted a 10.75% weekly rally after the June CPI release and a 7.58% gain following the July CPI report.

At press time, BTC price is trading near $63,700 inside a $62,000–$66,000 consolidation range, with RSI around 48 keeping momentum neutral; a sustained move above $66,000–$67,000 would confirm a range breakout and expose $72,000, while failure to clear resistance keeps $62,000 and $60,000 as the primary downside supports.

The distinction between a CPI-driven spike and a confirmed breakout will be critical. BTC needs to hold above the range ceiling rather than simply wick through it. A softer inflation number combined with acceptance above $67,000 would materially improve the short-term structure and could bring the $70,000–$72,000 region into play.

Ethereum Price Prediction: $2,000 Remains the Make-or-Break Level

Ethereum enters the CPI event with a more defined recovery pattern. ETH formed a double bottom around $1,600, followed by a recovery above $1,800. ETH price is now consolidating around $1,890–$1,920, putting the psychologically important $2,000 resistance directly in focus. The spot market is also showing a constructive signal. Ethereum has recorded meaningful exchange outflows, indicating that some holders are moving ETH away from exchanges rather than preparing to sell immediately.

However, derivatives positioning remains more cautious. That divergence suggests investors are accumulating exposure while leveraged traders are still hedging against a macro-driven move. For ETH, the CPI catalyst needs to do more than lift the price temporarily. A daily close above $2,000 would be the technical confirmation bulls need.

XRP Price Prediction: Can Bulls Defend the $1 Support?

XRP is entering the CPI release with the weakest technical structure among the three major assets. Large XRP holders have reportedly increased their holdings substantially in recent sessions, suggesting that whale demand has emerged around lower price levels.

However, XRP is trading near $1.02 with RSI around 38, keeping momentum weak; reclaiming $1.06 followed by the $1.10 resistance zone would improve the structure and expose $1.17–$1.18, while a decisive break below $1 would increase downside risk and invalidate the immediate recovery setup. For XRP, $1 is the defensive line, but $1.10 is the real confirmation level. Until buyers reclaim that zone, the broader trend remains vulnerable.

CPI Scenarios: Where Could BTC, ETH and XRP Move?

If CPI Comes in Below 3.4%

A downside inflation surprise would provide the cleanest bullish catalyst.

Bitcoin could attempt to clear $66,000–$67,000, opening the path toward $70,000–$72,000. Ethereum would immediately face the $2,000 barrier, while XRP could attempt to reclaim $1.06 and $1.10. The strongest confirmation would come from all three assets breaking their respective resistance levels rather than BTC rallying alone.

If CPI Matches 3.4%

An in-line reading could produce an initial whipsaw as traders digest the details. The market would likely shift its focus toward core CPI and monthly inflation components. If underlying inflation continues to cool, crypto could still benefit even without a headline surprise.

In this scenario, BTC may remain inside its range, while ETH and XRP would need asset-specific buying to clear resistance.

If CPI Comes in Above 3.4%

A hotter CPI reading would increase pressure on risk assets by reinforcing expectations for restrictive Fed policy. That would put $62,000–$60,000 back in focus for Bitcoin, while Ethereum could retest $1,800 and XRP could come under renewed pressure around $1. The reaction could be amplified because traders have positioned for a volatility expansion after weeks of compressed price action.
