Bitcoin Whales Accumulate at Fastest Pace Since April, On-Chain Data Shows

Wallets holding between 100 and 1,000 Bitcoin have increased their holdings at the fastest pace since April, according to on-chain data analyzed by crypto researcher Amar Taha. The 60-day cumulative net buying by this cohort reached 73,300 BTC as of Aug. 31, the highest level since April 21. This marks a notable shift in market positioning among mid-sized whales, who have been steadily accumulating during a period of price consolidation.

Whale Behavior Diverges from Spring Pattern

What makes this accumulation notable is the behavior of larger whales. Taha noted that wallets holding more than 10,000 BTC also accumulated 43,300 BTC over the same period. This contrasts sharply with the April–May period, when 100–1,000 BTC holders bought aggressively but mega-whales sold off roughly 40,000 BTC in mid-May. That divergence preceded a 25% decline in Bitcoin’s price, raising questions about whether the current alignment between mid-sized and mega-whales signals a different market trajectory.

Unlike the spring, when buying was concentrated among smaller whales while larger entities distributed, the current market shows both cohorts moving in the same direction. This coordinated accumulation could indicate a more sustained demand from high-net-worth individuals and institutional players, though on-chain data alone does not reveal the identity or intent of these holders.
