The tax on cryptocurrency and digital asset transfers is collected under new rules starting July 1. These rules apply to the transfer of such assets through service providers: income from the transaction is classified as other personal income and is subject to personal income tax at a rate of 0.1% of the amount of each transaction.

Key parameters of the new levy:

  • Type of transaction: transfer, sale, or other transfer of cryptocurrency or digital asset through a service provider.
  • Tax rate: 0.1% of the amount of each transaction.
  • Who withholds the tax: the crypto asset or digital asset service provider after transaction confirmation.
  • Note: the calculation is based on the transaction amount, not the investor’s profit; for example, for a deal of 10 million dong, the tax will be 10 thousand dong.

How the New Levy Is Calculated

From today, transactions with digital assets are essentially equated in tax logic to private investors’ securities transactions. The tax base is determined directly by the transfer value: if an investor sells a crypto asset or digital currency, the calculation is based on the confirmed deal amount, not the financial result.
