Jupiter crypto drops 9% despite strong showing in Solana attack study

Jupiter’s Ultra trading service generated far fewer sandwich attacks than some competing Solana dApps, as shown by a new three-year academic study.

This points to Jupiter’s pursuit of safer trade execution. But it comes as JUP fell more than 9% from its latest high, following a sharp price rally that it witnessed.

Jupiter Ultra performs better than rival platforms

The study looked at sandwich attacks on six blockchains. Researchers pointed out 28 million cases on the Solana network involving transactions that users expected protection.

A sandwich attack begins when a bot spots an incoming trade. What it then does is buy the asset first, causing the price to go higher before the original transaction goes through. It then proceeds to sell immediately, which leaves the trader with a worse price.

Jupiter Ultra users saw fewer of these attacks compared with users from other trading platforms.

Jupiter had an overall score of 0.7, meaning that attacks happened less often than it was thought it might have by researchers. Axiom scored 18.9, Photon 11.1, and BullX and GMGM both scored over 10.

Those figures do not mean Jupiter has stopped sandwich attacks completely. Instead, they show an interesting case where the way in which a trading application handles orders can affect the risk.
