Quantum computing company opening U.S. headquarters in Ballston

A U.K.-based quantum computing company is establishing a new U.S. headquarters in Arlington.

Phasecraft, which develops algorithms for quantum computers with a focus on industrial applications, plans to create 19 jobs in Ballston, Gov. Abigail Spanberger’s office announced in a press release today (Monday).

“Virginia continues to grow as a global hub for cutting-edge companies and groundbreaking technologies,” Spanberger said. “I’m thrilled to welcome Phasecraft to the Commonwealth and look forward to seeing all they accomplish as they grow and build on Virginia’s world-class innovation ecosystem.”

“This investment will create new high-tech jobs, attract other leading companies to Virginia, and strengthen the Commonwealth’s growing role in bringing next-generation technologies to market,” Spanberger continued.

The company says it selected Arlington for its headquarters because of the skilled workforce, nearby universities and strategic location. Ballston is also home to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), and earlier this year, Phasecraft joined a DARPA initiative researching possibilities in utility-scale quantum computing.

As our work with agencies across the U.S. government and the private sector continues to grow, so too will our American workforce,” said Phasecraft co-founder and CEO Ashley Montanaro. “We’re thrilled to now call Virginia home as the company continues to grow rapidly.”
