Mexican billionaire Ricardo Salinas urged followers to buy Bitcoin (BTC) as protection from fiat inflation, extending a campaign that now includes a reported 70% portfolio allocation to the asset.
Key Points:
- Salinas says fiat inflation acts as a hidden tax that reduces the value of wages and savings.
- He urged followers to buy and hold Bitcoin, arguing that its supply cannot be expanded at will.
- Earlier in 2026, Salinas said Bitcoin had risen from 10% to 70% of his investment portfolio.
Bitcoin Inflation Warning
Salinas told millions of followers on X on Aug. 31 that “fiat inflation is a hidden tax,” arguing that money creation reduces the value of wages and savings. He then told them to buy Bitcoin and hold it.
In an accompanying video, Salinas said Bitcoin prevents authorities or institutions from creating additional units at will, unlike government-issued currencies. “No one can print more just because they want to,” Salinas said.
Salinas, the former chairman of Grupo Elektra and founder of Banco Azteca, has made criticism of central bank policy a recurring theme in public appearances. The same argument appears across his interviews, speeches and social posts.
