South Korea’s virtual asset market is undergoing a significant transformation, moving from a retail-driven landscape to one increasingly shaped by institutional participation, according to Andrew Park, CEO of FactBlock and organizer of Korea Blockchain Week. Park’s remarks, reported by Bitcoin.com News, highlight a regulatory and legislative push that could redefine how digital assets are traded and managed in one of Asia’s most active crypto markets.
Regulatory Momentum Toward Corporate Participation
Park noted that South Korean financial authorities are actively considering allowing corporate virtual asset accounts for approximately 3,500 listed companies and professional investors. This move would mark a departure from the current restrictions that have largely limited direct corporate involvement in crypto trading. If implemented, it could unlock significant institutional capital and bring greater liquidity and stability to the market.
In parallel, the National Assembly has been laying the groundwork to integrate tokenized assets and security tokens into the existing financial regulatory framework. Revisions to the Electronic Securities Act and the Capital Markets Act are being drafted to provide legal clarity for these new asset classes, signaling a deliberate effort to modernize the country’s financial infrastructure.
