At a roundtable attended by Techerati on 14 October, representatives from ORCA Computing, Digital Realty, Digital Catapult and Origami Labs examined the barriers to commercial quantum computing deployment.
The discussion coincided with ORCA’s launch of its PT-3 photonic quantum computer, now operating alongside NVIDIA-accelerated computing at Digital Realty’s Innovation Lab in London.
While ORCA describes the system as designed to deliver commercial quantum advantage, enterprises still need evidence that quantum systems can improve specific workloads against established computing methods.
This reflects a wider industry challenge, as explored in Techerati’s previous analysis of shrinking quantum computing timelines and continuing enterprise uncertainty.
Finding Commercial Quantum Computing Applications
Richard Murray, CEO and Co-Founder of ORCA Computing, argued that identifying commercially useful applications remains one of the industry’s hardest challenges.
