Six des plus grandes banques du Canada explorent un système de dépôts tokenisés en dollars canadiens conçu pour déplacer l'argent plus rapidement entre les institutions financières et, à terme, se connecter à d'autres initiatives d'actifs numériques, TD Bank a annoncé mardi.

Bank of Montreal, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, National Bank of Canada, Royal Bank of Canada, Scotiabank et TD Bank Group forment la coentreprise, dont la première phase se concentre sur le transfert de dépôts tokenisés entre les banques participantes. Le communiqué conjoint indique que d'autres banques pourraient rejoindre le projet plus tard.

« La première phase du projet vise à déplacer efficacement les dépôts tokenisés entre les institutions financières canadiennes, avec l'objectif à plus long terme de se connecter à d'autres initiatives émergentes d'actifs numériques », ont-elles déclaré.

Les banques participantes sont collectivement connues sous le nom des Big Six du Canada : le groupe dominant du système bancaire du pays, avec des activités couvrant les services bancaires aux consommateurs, les prêts commerciaux, les marchés de capitaux et la gestion de patrimoine.

Les banques ont déclaré que le projet vise à offrir des paiements plus rapides, plus efficaces et programmables aux clients canadiens tout en préservant la stabilité financière et la surveillance réglementaire.
