Robinhood’s August crypto rebound is real, but it is not yet a return to last year’s pace. Combined notional volume across the Robinhood App and Bitstamp reached $17.5 billion, up 61% from July and still 38% below August 2025. The mix matters just as much: Bitstamp supplied $10.1 billion, or 57.7% of the total.

That makes the report a qualified positive for Robinhood Markets. The acquisition has given the company a broader crypto venue just when activity is recovering, yet the core app remains well below its year-earlier volume. HOOD shares closed Friday at $112.57, down 0.7% for the session and about 7.8% from the previous Friday’s close, according to historical Nasdaq data.

Bitstamp carried most of the volume

Robinhood’s August operating report split crypto activity into $7.4 billion on the Robinhood App and $10.1 billion at Bitstamp. The app grew faster from July—72%, versus 53% for Bitstamp—but it also fell harder from a year earlier, down 46% compared with Bitstamp’s 30% decline.

The headline therefore says two things. First, Robinhood captured a sharp sequential improvement after a weak July. Second, nearly three-fifths of the activity came through the acquired exchange rather than the consumer app that investors historically associated with the company’s crypto economics.
