The United States Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has planned a meeting of its Innovation Advisory Committee to discuss crypto, AI, and prediction market regulations.

The Innovation Advisory Committee will advise the CFTC on policy issues, including crypto regulation following yet another delay in passing the CLARITY Act.

Innovation Advisory Committee Meeting

The CFTC issued a notice on Thursday stating it would hold a meeting of its Innovation Advisory Committee on August 20 to discuss crypto, AI, and prediction market regulations. The notice listed several crypto-specific topics for discussion, including “areas where regulatory action can complement future Congressional legislation,” likely referring to the CLARITY Act and the Senate’s failure to advance it before the August recess. CFTC Chair Michael Selig released the agenda for the August 20 meeting, adding that he was keen to meet entrepreneurs, thinkers, and builders, and discuss how emerging technologies and financial products are shaping the market.

“America has long been the global hub of financial innovation. I look forward to meeting with the entrepreneurs, thinkers, and builders of the CFTC’s Innovation Advisory Committee to discuss ways emerging technologies and financial products are shaping our markets as we embark upon the new frontier of finance.”

The SEC Meeting

The CFTC’s announcement comes shortly after the United States Securities and Exchange Commission announced a meeting to discuss new crypto-related rules, including an exemption allowing crypto companies to raise capital. However, the SEC cancelled the meeting citing unforeseen scheduling issues.

Meanwhile, Michael Selig is the only Senate-confirmed CFTC commissioner and chair, with other positions within the agency currently lying vacant. President Trump has not indicated whether he intends to confirm additional nominations to the vacant positions. Instead, Commissioner Selig will be joined by other CFTC staff for the meeting. Lawmakers have urged President Trump to announce nominations to fill the vacant positions and ensure a full panel of bipartisan commissioners staffs the CFTC.
