It turns out that stubborn inflation and persistent geopolitical tensions create a difficult backdrop for crypto.

In Q2, total crypto market capitalization declined 11% and global spot crypto trading volumes fell 25% from the previous quarter. Also, Bitcoin price also declined by double digits during the quarter. This happened as US inflation readings stayed above the Fed's target rate of 2% and the Middle East conflict flared up, creating a difficult backdrop for crypto exchanges.

Despite the weak market conditions weighing on its Q2 results, Coinbase Global (NASDAQ:COIN) continued to strengthen its competitive position.

Coinbase's Diversification Strategy Is Holding Up Despite the Crypto Slump

Coinbase Global (NASDAQ:COIN)'s revenue fell 19% YoY to $1.22 billion and missed Wall Street expectations as the company faced a softer crypto market. Transaction revenue fell 22% to $599.2 million.

Even so, the quarter highlighted several encouraging trends. Coinbase continued to expand its share of the crypto market, capturing more than 10% of global crypto trading volume for the first time. The company's market share has steadily increased from 5.6% in Q3 2025 to 8.4% in Q4 2025 and 9.1% in Q1 2026.
