Ethereum (CRYPO: $ETH) is seeing its price rise at a faster pace than Bitcoin (CRYPTO: $BTC) as a rally in cryptocurrencies accelerates.

Ethereum's price broke above $2,500 U.S. in early trading on Aug. 24, having gained 34% over the last seven days. In contrast, Bitcoin's price has increased 24% over the same time period.

Cryptocurrencies trade around the clock: 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Until the past week, Ethereum's price had languished for most of this year and was unable to break through resistance it encountered at $2,000 U.S.

But now, the price of ETH is running higher and outpacing the gains seen in other major digital assets, notably Bitcoin. And analysts say the rally in Ethereum could be just getting started.

This is because a "golden cross" chart pattern has formed on the ETH/BTC ratio.

A golden cross occurs when an asset's 50-day moving average surpasses its 200-day moving average. It's said to reflect a short-term trend of outperformance.

Bitcoin moved from $65,336.6 to $78,267.4 over the last 30-day period, a gain of 19.8 percent.

The latest crossover in the ETH/BTC ratio suggests that Ethereum is likely to continue running ahead of Bitcoin in the short term, say analysts and chart technicians.

The ETH/BTC ratio is calculated by dividing the price of Ethereum by the price of Bitcoin. It shows how much Bitcoin it takes to buy one Ethereum.

When the ratio goes up, Ethereum gains value faster than Bitcoin. When the ratio declines, Bitcoin is stronger.

The most recent golden cross on the ETH/BTC ratio occurred on July 25, 2025. That led to a 36% gain in Ethereum over the following four weeks before it reversed into a downtrend.

Bitcoin is trading at $78,950 U.S. on Aug. 24.
