The remarks come as several AI companies compete for better and better models and as AI usage proliferates. There have been fights over what AI will mean for the country’s labor force, and concerns about the data centers needed to support the growing technology.
OpenAI touts Astra as the world’s “most intelligent and aligned model.”
“GPT‑6 Astra brings together years of research and big bets across pre-training, reinforcement learning, and alignment,” the company said in a news release. “Astra is state-of-the-art on computer use, browsing, software engineering, cybersecurity, science, and professional work.”
Astra is rolling out this week to a limited number of organizations before ultimately becoming available to all ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users.
“Astra is our most aligned model, with substantial improvements in understanding user intent and model behavior—you can delegate tasks with greater confidence in Astra’s judgment,” the company said.
AI has become a major conduit for investment over the past few years and a central driver of the stock market’s growth.
In June, Jamie Cox, managing partner for Harris Financial Group, predicted to the Washington Examiner that the AI boom is about 80% responsible for recent gains in the market.
