Gold advocate Peter Schiff has dismissed Bitcoin's latest rally as misguided, arguing that a recent U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission announcement on tokenized stocks will ultimately draw capital away from the cryptocurrency rather than support its adoption.

The SEC's move toward regulatory clarity on tokenized securities has been widely interpreted by crypto traders as a bullish signal for blockchain-based finance. Schiff, a longtime Bitcoin skeptic, sees the opposite: a competitive threat that could erode Bitcoin's appeal as an investment.

Bitcoin was trading above $81,500 on Friday as the market extended its recovery, yet Schiff questioned the logic behind the enthusiasm. In a post on X, he argued that the development is "actually bearish for Bitcoin, which must now compete with tokenized securities."

Tokenized stocks are digital representations of traditional equities issued on blockchain networks. They allow investors to gain exposure to shares of public companies through crypto-native infrastructure, without directly holding the underlying stock through a conventional brokerage.

Schiff's argument rests on a simple premise: capital available for speculative or diversified investment is finite. If tokenized stocks offer blockchain-based ownership of familiar, cash-flow-generating companies, some of that capital could be redirected from Bitcoin. He described shares in profitable, dividend-paying companies as a more reliable store of value than Bitcoin, which does not generate earnings or dividends.
