Points Clés

  • Hardware wallet sales in Russia reportedly rose by more than 100%.
  • The surge is linked to an approaching deadline for crypto regulation.
  • Self-custody tools can appeal to users seeking direct control of private keys.

Sales of hardware cryptocurrency wallets in Russia have surged more than twofold on major online marketplaces, as the country's new regulatory framework for digital assets is set to take effect on September 1, 2026. The spike in demand underscores a growing preference among Russian users for self-custody solutions ahead of the sweeping rule changes.

Electronics retailer M.Video reported that hardware-wallet unit sales on its marketplace jumped 107% in the second quarter of 2026 compared with the first quarter. Category turnover, which reflects the total value of sales, climbed 92% over the same period. Fedor Pavlenko, a representative for the retailer, noted that demand for hardware wallets grew by more than two times during the quarter as the range of available devices expanded.

The trend is not isolated to a single platform. RIA Novosti, citing marketplace operator RWB, reported that unit sales of hardware wallets on Wildberries rose 84% in the first half of 2026 from a year earlier, while sales value increased 60%. On Wildberries, the average purchase price for a hardware wallet fell 13% year over year to 7,900 rubles, suggesting that buyers are gravitating toward more affordable devices even as overall unit volumes climb.
