There is growing alarm and anxiety over how quickly artificial intelligence is evolving. Tech leaders have warned the country needs to slow down before it's too late. However, companies are pressing forward with the technology that is operating right now in Memphis and Southaven.

"If we go too slow, I still believe that the wrong people will be in charge of the technology,” said Dario Amodei, the CEO of Anthropic, on Saturday. “That again, will bring the probability of things going wrong very high."

Amodei, a frontrunner in the race for artificial intelligence, warns some companies may use this technology for harm. His own company rents computing power from SpaceX right here in Memphis.

Anthropic and Google each pay Elon Musk’s company about $1 billion a month in rent. SpaceXAI has multiple data centers across Southaven and Memphis.

There is now a bipartisan push to regulate this rapidly changing AI technology.

"The only system we have in place right now is the honor system, right?” asked U.S. Rep. Lori Trahan, D-Massachusetts. “The most powerful technology in human history is being regulated by the developers themselves."

"Congress, I think, has a role (and) responsibility, but the people who are providing and creating these products obviously have responsibility as well,” explained U.S. Rep. Mike Johnson, R-Louisiana.
