By Neil Roland ( September 23, 2026, 21:16 GMT | Insight) -- US Securities and Exchange Commission member Hester Peirce said cryptocurrency regulators should retreat on citizen information-gathering because it is counter-productive. “The excessive regulatory focus on data accumulation is often the product of innate protective instincts,” she said in a speech. “Sometimes, however, the human penchant for knowing what others are doing or a fear that regulators will be blamed for not foreseeing a problem drive government data vacuuming.”US Securities and Exchange Commission member Hester Peirce said cryptocurrency regulators’ information-gathering on citizens is counter-productive....
