Cybersecurity teams are facing a difficult equation: more threats, more data, and fewer resources to analyze them. Attackers are increasingly using automation and artificial intelligence to accelerate phishing, credential attacks, reconnaissance, and other malicious activities. At the same time, security operations centers (SOCs) are dealing with enormous volumes of alerts generated across endpoints, networks, cloud environments, applications, and identity platforms.

This is where AI agents in cybersecurity are attracting growing attention.

Unlike conventional automation tools that perform predefined actions, AI agents can potentially interpret information, reason across multiple steps, use connected security tools, and take actions based on established objectives and permissions. When properly implemented, these capabilities could transform how organizations detect and respond to cyber threats.

AI Agents and Threat Detection

One of the most promising applications of AI agents is AI-powered threat detection. Enterprise environments generate huge amounts of security telemetry, making it difficult for human analysts to investigate every alert.

An AI agent can correlate information from multiple sources and identify patterns that may indicate suspicious behavior. For example, an unusual login could become more significant when combined with impossible-travel indicators, privilege escalation, and unexpected access to sensitive files.
