A rapid recovery that carried Bitcoin from the mid-$70,000 range to the doorstep of $82,000 stalled over the weekend as renewed conflict in the Middle East and a shift in a widely followed technical indicator gave traders fresh reasons to lock in gains.

The cryptocurrency climbed to roughly $81,700 on September 19 after rebounding from a slide toward $75,000 earlier in the week. The advance marked the strongest level since early September, yet sellers emerged just below the $82,000 threshold that has repeatedly capped rallies this month.

The timing coincided with a sharp escalation in hostilities between Saudi Arabia and Iran-backed Houthi forces in Yemen. Houthi fighters claimed missile and drone strikes on targets in Riyadh and Yanbu, while the Saudi-led coalition said air defense systems intercepted a ballistic missile aimed at the capital. Saudi authorities also reported thwarting attack attempts on Yanbu, Taif, Bisha, and Farasan. Smoke and flames were visible near Riyadh and around King Khalid International Airport, though not all of the Houthi claims have been independently verified.

The U.S. State Department warned that the conflict "has the potential to escalate rapidly" and urged Americans to seriously reconsider travel through the region. President Donald Trump cut short his Camp David weekend and returned to the White House, although the administration did not publicly explain the schedule change.
