Insider Brief

  • QUDORA will lead a seven-member German consortium seeking to develop a trapped-ion quantum computer with at least 1,000 physical qubits and 50 logical qubits under the NFQC-1k project.
  • The project has an estimated €122 million total volume over up to five years and is part of Germany’s effort to establish at least two fault-tolerant quantum computers by 2030.
  • The consortium, which includes research institutions, NXP Semiconductors and Alpine Quantum Technologies’ German unit, also plans to establish a pilot line for high-performance ion-trap quantum processors.

PRESS RELEASE — QUDORA will lead a seven-member consortium of research institutions and industry partners in a bid to build one of Europe’s most advanced quantum computers. The project, named NFQC-1k, is being selected under the Quantum Computing Competition of Germany’s Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR), with a total volume of approximately €122 million. Its goal is to develop a quantum computer with at least 1,000 qubits at European state-of-the-art level, built on trapped-ion technology and powered by QUDORA’s proprietary NFQC technology. In parallel, a pilot line for high-performance quantum processor units (QPUs) is established.
