Grayscale’s Zcash Spot ETF Debuts With $14.8M Volume, Closes Down 1.5%

Grayscale Investments launched its first spot Zcash exchange-traded fund (ETF) on U.S. markets, with the fund — trading under the ticker ZCSH — recording $14.8 million in trading volume on its opening day. The fund closed the session down 1.54% at $63.10, after having been up more than 3.5% earlier in the day.

ZCSH: A New Milestone for Zcash

The debut of ZCSH marks a significant step for Zcash (ZEC), a privacy-focused cryptocurrency that has often remained on the periphery of mainstream investment products. This is the first spot ZEC ETF to list in the United States, providing investors with a regulated vehicle to gain exposure to the asset without directly holding the cryptocurrency.

Grayscale has a history with Zcash, having previously operated a Zcash trust. The transition from a trust to a spot ETF represents a structural change that offers investors greater liquidity and the ability to create and redeem shares, potentially narrowing the premium or discount to the underlying asset’s net asset value.

Market Reaction and Trading Dynamics

The intraday volatility seen in ZCSH’s first session is not unusual for new ETFs, particularly those tied to cryptocurrencies. The initial surge of more than 3.5% likely reflected early buying interest from investors eager to participate in the first regulated ZEC product. However, the subsequent decline to close lower suggests profit-taking or a broader market pullback in digital assets during the trading day.
