A group of individuals who lured a victim under the pretext of cryptocurrency trading, made him drink a drugged beverage, and stole cash before fleeing has been caught by the police.

The Incheon Seobu Police Station announced today (September 30) that they have arrested two men in their 40s, identified as A and B, on charges of special robbery, and have forwarded one of them into custody.

The suspects are accused of fleeing with 35 million won in cash brought by a man in his 30s, C, who had visited the lobby of an officetel in Cheongna-dong, Seo-gu, Incheon, for a cryptocurrency transaction on the afternoon of the 16th.

It was found that the suspects lured C by telling him that he could save on transaction fees and other costs by trading cryptocurrency face-to-face.

They reportedly handed C a drink suspected of containing drugs, and while C was in a dazed state, they took the money he had brought for the transaction.

C, who drank the beverage, fell asleep in his car and woke up 5 hours later, but was reportedly unable to accurately recall what had happened prior.

The police apprehended A and B in Wonju, Gangwon Province, and Incheon on the 21st and yesterday, respectively.

During the arrest, the police confiscated 5.5 million won in cash that B was carrying.

The police have also requested a detailed appraisal from the National Forensic Service to investigate the drug contained in the drink consumed by C.

Having forwarded A into custody, the police plan to apply for an arrest warrant for B, who was arrested yesterday, within the day.
