MicroStrategy pauses Bitcoin purchases
In recent months, MicroStrategy temporarily suspended its previously regular schedule of Bitcoin purchases. Instead, the Washington-based business intelligence firm focused on strengthening its financial reserves and optimizing its capital structure. The company increased its preferred stock offerings, built a $5.1 billion US dollar reserve, and established a dedicated $1.59 billion cash pool from significant common stock offerings.
This pause coincided with a volatile period in the cryptocurrency market, with Bitcoin’s value fluctuating and leaving MicroStrategy’s substantial Bitcoin holdings in a significant unrealized loss for several months.
Return to profitability as Bitcoin rallies
MicroStrategy holds more Bitcoin than any other publicly listed company, with more than 840,447 BTC acquired at an average cost basis of approximately $75,385 per coin. With Bitcoin’s recent surge past $80,000, the company’s position moved back into positive territory after a months-long deficit.
