Ripple CEO says U.S. is close to finishing crypto rules, within reach of becoming global crypto capital

Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse (브래드 갈링하우스) said the United States is nearing the final stage of overhauling cryptocurrency regulation and could rise as a global crypto hub.

On Sept. 4, blockchain outlet Decrypt reported that Garlinghouse wrote on X on Sept. 3, "Making America the crypto capital of the world is within reach. Let’s finish the job."

The remarks came shortly after U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Chair Michael Selig mentioned details of a recent White House meeting. Selig cited an Aug. 19 meeting in which President Donald Trump met people from the cryptocurrency, technology and financial industries. Selig said the United States should lead next-generation financial technology rather than let other countries set the rules.

Garlinghouse attended the meeting along with industry figures including Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong. From U.S. financial regulators, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Paul Atkins and CFTC Chair Selig attended. Selig said of the meeting, "The new frontier in finance is being built in America."

Market attention is shifting to a Senate vote this month on the "Clarity bill." The bill contains measures to clarify the regulation of crypto assets in the United States, and the Senate is set to vote on Sept. 15. Differences remain over provisions on stablecoin rewards, decentralised finance, consumer protection and public officials.
