SkyBridge Capital founder Anthony Scaramucci on Thursday attributed stalled progress on the CLARITY Act to President Donald Trump’s actions, including the launch of his Official Trump (CRYPTO: TRUMP) meme coin.

Scaramucci Holds Trump Responsible for CLARITY Failure

In an X post, Scaramucci argued that Wall Street underestimates how Trump’s actions block progress on cryptocurrency legislation

“When he does things like the meme coin and the market manipulation, the Clarity Act stalls,” the Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) bull said. “Because his opposition won’t give him a win on cryptocurrency regulation when he’s behaving like that.”

Scaramucci said that Trump has “broken every norm,” and on crypto, he’s gone too far. And yet, he doesn’t seem to care.

Trump’s Focus Only on Financial Gains, Says Scaramucci

Scaramucci describes Trump’s approach as prioritizing personal financial gains and media attention over policy goals.

“His poll numbers reflect it, but his attitude is simple: make money and get attention,” said the former Goldman Sachs investment banker. “That’s the operating system for the next two years.”

The White House didn’t immediately return Benzinga’s request for comment.

What’s Next for CLARITY

Scaramucci has been critical of both Democrats and Republicans for failing to reach a bipartisan compromise on crucial legislation that aims to establish clearer rules for the cryptocurrency industry.

The Senate did not vote on the CLARITY Act before its August recess, pushing the next potential window to September.

The bill still needs 60 votes, meaning all voting Republicans plus at least seven Democrats. Polymarket prices the odds of the bill becoming law in 2026 at 21% as of this writing.

Meanwhile, the SEC canceled a planned Friday meeting intended to review cryptocurrency regulatory matters. Reports also emerged that the White House is considering a meeting with officials from the cryptocurrency and prediction market industries.
